Attendees will gain essential skills to conduct and publish health data research. The session will provide a hands-on opportunity to observe a study using an electronic health record database. Key learning points include formulating a research protocol, conducting a study with the latest technology, Dexter, and enhancing scientific writing skills.

Professor Joht Singh Chandan
Professor Joht Singh Chandan is the youngest Clinical Professor in the United Kingdom and currently serves as Clinical Professor of Public Health at the University of Birmingham. His research focuses on tackling health inequalities through the innovative use of data and policy, with particular emphasis on domestic abuse, gambling-related harms, and maternal health.
A leading voice in public health, Joht has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles and led high-impact research influencing UK Government policy, NICE guidelines, and the World Health Organisation. His work has attracted over £69 million in research funding, and he has been recognised in international media for his achievements.
In addition to his academic contributions, Joht is a frequent media commentator and plays an active role in mentoring the next generation of clinician-scientists. He brings a strong commitment to democratising research skills, especially for those aiming to use data to drive change in healthcare.
Dr Amar Rajgor
Dr Amar Rajgor is an NIHR Doctoral Fellow in ENT Surgery based at Newcastle University and Freeman Hospital, where he applies artificial intelligence to advance head and neck cancer care. As Chief Investigator of the NIHR-funded AIRSPACE Study, he uses radiomics to develop risk-prediction models for patients with advanced laryngeal cancer and has been awarded substantial NIHR funding to further expand research in this field.
Recognised on the Northern Powerhouse Ethnic Minority Powerlist 2024 for Digital Technology and Thought Leadership, Amar has been featured in various news articles and published in high-impact journals. He has also won multiple national and international prizes, including the Munro Black Prize, the Philip Stell Prize, and the George Grey-Turner Prize. In addition, Amar has authored chapters in core ENT textbooks – such as Scott-Brown’s Otorhinolaryngology & Head & Neck Surgery – and serves as a reviewer for leading journals, including the BMJ, Clinical Otolaryngology, and the British Journal of Radiology.
